The air held a darken quality. Silence lingering in the shadows. Everything was still, waiting for anything to happen. Nothing stirred as if even the smallest of ants were afraid of what lay in the distance. Hollow woods towered over the dried feild, stretching their shadows further with every passing moment. The darkness was coming. Tree after tree plunged deeper into the total darkness. With every tree taken into the grasp of silence the sense of dispair grew.
A howling wind pushed the reluctant leaves into the darkness. The dancing reds and yellows became one with the black veil. The light rustle of leaves stirred a small chipmunk from its den. A tan nose lifted in the air, sniffing intently towards the black wall. Small black eyes laid fixed on the envetable. Ears twitched, debating options over in its small mind.
New sounds reached the chipmunk's ears. The sound of pattering of feet against the hardwood above. It lifted its head to find the source of the sound. No sooner had the animal moved did a second creature join it on the branch. Olive green eyes fixed on the chipmunk. A look of hunger dewelling in their depths. Thought gave way to instinct. The chipmunk turned to bolt further up the tree and away from this threat.
One long arm reached up, swatting at the chipmunk's flank. Its heart raced, losing footing on the trunk of the massive tree. Pain seared through its side as it was pushed back down on to the branch. A heavy paw was pushing down on it. Try as it might, the chipmunk could not free itself from its attacker. Black eyes fixed on the olive ones above it. The attacker's jaws parted, showing its main weapon. Fangs, glimmering white in the decreasing light. The chipmunk gave one final squweek before the forest became silent once again.
The predator lifted its head from its meal, looking into the swelling darkness. Metal on metal echoed through its large ears. As strange as the sound was, the animal appeared unaffected. Instead it continued to eat as the sounds decreased. Silence was again claimed the woods. [[Rest in Peace little Chipmunk.]]Take Me Under - Three Days Grace
